1.  Apologies for absence

There were apologies for absence received from Cllr R Quant Ceredigion Council.

2.  Minutes of the last meeting

2.1  The minutes of the meeting were approved as a correct record.

2.2  The matter of the Town Service Bus stopping at the station was raised.

The Secretary confirmed that the Old Station had agreed some time ago

to allow the bus to stop there. PCC is following this up and being chased

by the Town Council to complete arrangements asap.

3.  Confidentiality

The members present all agreed that no information (other than very general indications such as 6,570 replies received and there is a clear supressed demand) is to be released without the express consent of the Chair, Vice Chair and Secretary who will only give such consent when approval has been given by the Office of Edwina Hart.

4.  Cambrian Lines Survey

The meeting received a presentation from the Secretary on the results of the Cambrian Rail Survey.  The meeting expressed it thanks to the team (Mansel, Trevor, Rhydian and Robert) for their work on the project.

cont….

The meeting discussed the results and the report outline. The following comments were put forward and will be included in the final report as appropriate.

Bus services along the coat in the evening

The point that the coast is not served by either train or bus services             between 1700 and 2100 hours

Shopping and family visits

Such activities are restricted due to the infrequent train services.

Lampeter University

This university has 3,000 students, however they need public transport     to Aberystwyth University.  The current rail service is not able to          provide this.

Increase in passenger traffic

It should be noted that the surveys on the Shrewsbury to Chester line        showed an increase in potential traffic which was well exceeded when           the service was improved.

Business relocation

There are local businesses which have (and in one case is about to)          had to relocate due to the poor commuter train service which inhibits them from gaining the necessary staff.

The representatives of Aberystwyth University tabled a letter of support for an enhanced rail service and this will be added as a consultation response to the report.

A copy of the overall results is attached to these minutes at appendix A.

5.  Financial Report

The meeting received the financial report.
The meeting also AGREED to proceed with a new web site (separate from the Welshpool Town Council Site) for a sum of £280.  The domain name is already in existance.

6.  Mid Wales Stragic Rail Group

The meeting was updated on the formation of a Strategic Rail Group for Mid Wales. The meeting noted that the first exploratory meeting is being held on Monday 11th November 2013.  The Chair sought support from the meeting for the appointment of Robert Robinson as secretary to this new group. This would be subject to the approval of Welshpool Town Council.

7.  Tourist Trains

The meeting considered a request for support in seeking a steam tourist train with mobile ETRMS system.  In principle the meeting was supportive of the proposal. However after discussion it was AGREED that SARPA should produce the necessary information and report for submission to the Shrewsbury and Aberystwyth Rail Liaison Committee so that a final decision on support can be made.

The Committee acknowledged the importance of Tourist trains along the coast, particularly those hauled by steam traction.
